I have been doing home childcare for 24 years.  We are a non-smoking home.  Cradles and Crayons is located in my walk out basement and is totally self contained with kitchen, bathroom, activity room and large play area with bright colors and plenty of playing and learning activities.

Philosophy Statement

I strongly believe that the goal of every early childhood provider should be to provide the highest quality care for young children.  Quality care can be achieved through a combination of education, experience, a learning attitude and a love for children.

I am committed to providing a fun, educational place where young children can learn and develop through hands-on, minds-on activities.

I am committed to serving as the parent’s partner in providing high quality childcare.  I believe I can best meet the needs of my parents by providing consistent and caring professional services for the children entrusted to me.

I believe that I can best meet the needs of my children by fostering an environment that recognizes each child as an individual, fully appreciate the importance of play and take every opportunity to encourage development. I believe children need a constant sense of safety and security when they are away from their parents.

I believe in respecting every child and parent with whom I work. I believe that I can play an active part in making this world a better place by being totally dedicated to excellence in the important work I do.

Information About Myself

I am a mother of 3 children.  Richard (21) is in the Navy and Malissa (25) is married and expecting their first child and Nicole (26) has her own home and is also expecting her first child.   I enjoy dancing, watching hockey, motorcycle riding and doing the outdoors stuff (rafting, hiking, camping, rock climbing, canoeing).

I have been doing daycare for 24 years, both in the Detroit area and here in Omaha.

My Daycare home is licensed and I am certified for CPR for the Professional Rescuer (which includes; infant, child and adult CPR) and am certified in Emergency Outdoor Medical Care.  I am also certified by National Ski Patrol for Emergency Medical Care.

All who live in the house have been cleared against the Nebraska Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry and Nebraska Adult Protective Services Central Registry.  Everyone 16 years and older must be cleared.

We have also been checked and cleared for all Felony/Misdemeanors, including crimes against children, misdemeanor tickets, felony or misdemeanor convictions and pending criminal charges.

I was in the top 20 for Provider of the Year in 1997 through Greater Omaha Women’s Fund.

I have completed Childcare and Early Childhood Education Management Training through Early Childhood Training Services

I have completed beginning American Sign Language classes.

I was a Girl Scout Leader for 5 years.

I was a Boy Scout Leader for 8 years.

I taught dance at Studio D for one year and have taken classes there for the last 11 years.

I love working and being with the children.  And I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

I have a Business Management Degree but do not worry, I have no plans of going to work in the "real world".  I love the children too much.

Early Learning Program

A wide variety of age appropriate, safe durable learning materials and equipment is available.

The daily activity plans for preschoolers provide a variety of developmentally appropriate, concrete, hands-on learning experience to:

  •           Promote a healthy sense of competence

  •           Develop social skills in each child

  •           Encourage the child to think, reason and pose questions

  •           Foster both receptive and expressive language development

  •           Enhance each child’s physical development and skills

  •           Encourage sound safety, health and nutritional practices

  •           Stimulate the child’s creative expression and appreciation of the art

The available activities support learning through exploration, problem solving, repetition, intuition, imitation, etc.  Time during the day is allowed for both child-selected activities and adult-directed activities.  All children have opportunities to make choices and I respect the child’s right to choose not to participate in every activity.

Preschool Program

A specially designed preschool program will be used to introduce and teach preschoolers the basic skills, such as cutting, gluing, coloring, painting, etc.  Social skills and etiquette will also be stressed.  Preschool runs September through May.

Activities included in Preschool are as follows:

  • Thinking and Talking (a discussion of the day’s theme or unit)

  • Games

  • Books

  • Songs

  • Crafts and Creations

  • Movement Time/Large Motor Skills

The preschool program is meant for children, ages 3 and up. The younger children can join us for Thinking and Talking, the reading and singing and any other age appropriate activities. There is a theme or two each week that we follow.
